Did Salman Khan Insult AR Rahman?
Salman Khan recently made a late entry at the launch of Raunaq, a music collaboration venture between AR Rahman and Indian Union Minister of Telecom and IT, Kapil Sibal. But that was not all Salman did! According to sources, he also rubbed AR Rahman the wrong way!
Midway through the event, when he was invited on the podium to speak, Salman had kind words for Kapil Sibal, saying that he was a great lyricist.
But what followed was a classic foot-in-the-mouth-scene! On stage, Salman said, “You all know what an average artist Rahman is, right?”
But the moment the words left Salman’s lips, Rahman responded only with a tight smile.
Rahman’s displeasure was so obvious that even Salman realised he had gone a little too far with his attempt at humour and he tried to rectify things by saying, “There’s one thing common between the two of us – Jai Ho.”
Of course, Jai Ho wasn’t exactly a unifying common factor between Rahman and Salman. Apparently, the musician trademarked the phrase post his Oscar win for Slumdog Millionaire and allegedly even sent a notice to Salman’s brother Sohail for using the title for their 2014 release’s name.
And they’ve definitely not buried the hatchet. Later at the event, when Salman stretched out his hand to the musical genius, Rahman didn’t reciprocate and kept his hand by his side!
Salman turned complimentary soon enough, saying that he had heard a little bit of the song from Raunaq and described it as “beautiful.” He then asked Rahman, “Hamare liye kab kaam karoge? (When will you work with us?)”
Apparently, Rahman had been approached by Salman to work on Ek Tha Tiger‘s music. But for some reason, the maestro dropped out at the last minute. Salman was not impressed with what Rahman did, which he felt was quite unprofessional. The problem between the two has apparently continued !
